Gettin Schooled The Academics Behind Employer Branding - Blogging4Jobs

Gettin’ Schooled The Academics Behind Employer Branding - Blogging4Jobs Employer Branding Recruitment Marketing 101 Six years ago employer branding sort of fell into my lap. I didn’t major in it in college. There was no formal this is how we do it. I talked to experts in the field, read everything I could find, and drank a lot of coffee (creativity by caffeine). So, when I recently saw a MOOC offered by eCornell, I thought … why not? Let’s see if what I am doing is right by academic standards? What’s a MOOC? MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Class. My MOOC â€" taught by Chris Collins, an associate professor at Cornell â€" was on employer branding and social media. Oh, and best of all, it (like many MOOCs) was free and self-directed. 3 A’s of Employer Branding In the course, Collins defines employer branding as the “perceptions and beliefs” that others have about a company as a place to work. I think most of us will agree with that. He then goes on to talk about the three A’s of employer branding: Awareness, Attitudes and Attributes. Awareness:  Does your target audience know that your company exists? Does your target audience recognize your company as an employer of choice? Attitudes:  What are the general feelings that people have about your company? Attributes:   What is the detailed knowledge that people have about your organization’s pay, total rewards, training, etc.? How do you stack up against your competitors for talent? Does this make sense? These are questions that I’ve asked, though I never sat down and mapped them out as the “three A’s.” If you are early in your employer brand journey, I would encourage you to understand the A’s as they relate to your company. Employer Branding Recruitment Marketing 101 Before creating a Facebook page or Twitter handle, there are several precursors to do. Here are a few areas that you’ll want to explore: Internal assessment: What are your company’s existing values? What do your current employees â€" at all levels â€" say about what it’s like at your workplace? Target audience: Who are you trying to attract? What do they want from an employer? Value proposition: What differentiates you from other companies? What makes you special? Does your value prop align with information gathered during the assessment stage? Does what you have synch with what your target audience wants? Once you’ve done your homework and truly get your brand from the inside out, that’s when you can start developing communication channels. That’s when consistency in messaging starts to matter and when the employer brand storytelling begins. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} Back in 2008, I worked with a research team for more than four months prior to implementing brand initiatives. That foundation had a huge impact in setting our course. Additionally, over the past six years we’ve taken the time to analyze and modify as needed. What just made business sense, apparently makes academic sense, too! You may now move to the head of the class.

Fix It Friday Must I Be An Expert Todays Fix It Friday answer is on whether you should be a specialist in each activity necessity mentioned. On Friday, I react to YOUR pursuit of employment questions! On the off chance that you have an inquiry, ask me! Truly, most inquiries are not too exceptional. Odds are, another person has a similar inquiry you do! Heres todays question: When a pursuit of employment requires two discrete and unmistakable ranges of abilities, (for example, preparing capacities and specialized capacities) and you coordinate one set very well and are somewhat under-qualified in the other by what means would it be a good idea for you to deal with the one that you are under-equipped for? I am an Implementation and Training Specialist and keeping in mind that my preparation aptitudes are model and grant winning, I may do not have some understanding on the specialized side. I am not looking at knowing nothing, however rather being middle of the road or propelled level when the expected set of responsibilities calls for master level. All Jobs Require Multiple Skill Sets In todays workplace, I would be unable to recognize a vocation that doesnt require immensely various aptitudes. We are continually being approached to accomplish more with less. For your situation, not having master level innovation aptitudes COULD be a factor, however perhaps not as much as you might suspect. Truly, what is the large distinction between what a propelled client knows versus a specialist client realizes how to do? Comprehend What Expert Means You should better comprehend what you are truly inadequate. You can do this by conversing with industry pioneers in preparing and advancement or going to your neighborhood ASTD section gatherings. You could connect with somebody who is a specialist and request an enlightening gathering to all the more likely comprehend what capacities you need. Excuse It One alternative is to excuse this missing information as no enormous deal.Focus on what you CAN do and why this advantages the companys contributions. You may have different abilities need and these future your worth include (and compensate for the missing master level aptitudes). Make certain to give instances of times you have had the option to beat absence of information and your capacity to ace new aptitudes effectively and rapidly! This definitely happens routinely. Activities Speak Louder Than Words When they see you in real life, they might be happy to disregard missing abilities. Your model stage/convey abilities may charm them. In the event that you have video of yourself preparing, share it! You may considerably offer to introduce on a specialist level topic subject so they can see you in real life. Fix It The other choice, when you have decided your missing information, is to go fix it by building up those aptitudes. Mentors Are Not Always SMEs Not all mentors NEED to be SMEs (topic specialists). Concentrate on preparing openings with associations that don't require these more significant level of specialized aptitudes. Certainty Is King As you probably are aware, your quality and trust in the front of the room, in a manner of speaking, is the thing that connects with and intrigues. Concentrate on your qualities, not your shortcomings! Have faith in what you do bring to the table and dont fixate on what you dont have. There will consistently be competitors without key aptitudes. They landed their position on account of the worth they give to the association. Got a Question?
